Most side effects of the stimulant medications are related to the dosage of medication. Most common side effect of stimulant medications are:- Insomnia
- Increased anxiety
- Headaches
- Irritability
- Loss of appetite (anorexia)
- Stomach aches
- A few children develop tics during treatment
Patients with ADHD usually well tolerate stimulant medication. Patients with high blood presure must be very careful because amphetamines may worse high blood presure.
It is about 9% of patients develop tics during treatment and 1% may be chronic. It is important to careful monitoring to detect worsering or emergence of tics during stimulant medications.

- Constipation
- Difficult urination
- Reproductive system disorders(menstrual irregularities, prostatitis, erectile dysfunction)
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
A very few patients cannot tolerate any stimulant, no matter how low the dosage. Than the patient is often given an antidepressant instead of the stimulant.
